CUPRA Becomes a Partner of Berlinale Shorts and Promotes New Talent with CUPRA Filmmaker Award
The short film has a long tradition as an art form at the Berlinale and is an important component in the festival’s artistic profile. Since 1956 the Berlin International Film Festival has awarded a Golden and a Silver Bear to the best short films, which will now be joined by a new endowed award.CUPRA, the new Mobility Partner of Berlinale, is expanding its commitment by partnering with Berlinale Shorts and funding the jointly initiated Berlinale Shorts CUPRA Filmmaker Award, whose winner will also be selected by the International Short Film Jury.Starting in 2025, the Berlinale Shorts CUPRA Filmmaker Award will go to an unconventional directorial talent from the competition of the festival’s short film section. The new award is endowed by CUPRA with 20,000 euros.“The award enabled by CUPRA is an ideal addition to our long-standing commitment to short film and underlines its importance on occasion of its 70th anniversary. We are delighted that CUPRA is strengthening the promotion of talent at the festival by making this new award possible,” states Berlinale Director Tricia Tuttle.“CUPRA shares a common vision with the new era of the Berlinale: to be an instigator of creativity, especially for the next generation. From 2025, this partnership will be a great opportunity for CUPRA to continue to impulse creative talent in the world of cinema,” said Wayne Griffiths, CEO of CUPRA.
The nominees for the CUPRA Filmmaker Award are all those directors participating with their films in the competition for best short film in the Berlinale Shorts programme. The award will be presented during the Awards Ceremony of the 75th Berlin International Film Festival at Berlinale Palast on February 22, 2025.
